Web development

We build Web sites, mostly with WordPress. (We have experience with several other content management systems, so feel free to ask, but WordPress is the main tool in our toolbox.)

Why WordPress? In our experience, it hits a nice “sweet spot” for our clients between ease of use and feature-richness. Some CMSes offer tons of features, but at the cost of being too complicated for normal people to use; others are so minimalist that they leave users wishing for features they don’t have. WordPress lands right in the middle of that spectrum — powerful enough to do what you want, but easy enough to use that you won’t dread doing it.

We’ve been working with WordPress since 2010, which means we know it down to its bones. We know how it behaves, why it behaves the way it does, and how to make it behave the way you want it to. We can make it sing and dance. If you ask us, we can even make it moonwalk.

We work hard to do things the WordPress way — meaning our solutions are as simple, natural and easy to use as WordPress itself. We take usability seriously, both for the people who visit your site and the people who edit it. And we sweat the small stuff, so you don’t have to.

Custom programming

But maybe there’s something you want to do that WordPress can’t do out of the box. And maybe there’s not an easy, off the shelf plugin that does what you want either. Maybe you’re doing something wild and unique, something that only you could have thought of.

We have the expertise to help you there too. We have experience writing custom code in PHP, Python, Perl, and even some other programming languages that don’t begin with the letter “P.” We know modern Web standards like HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS inside and out. And we have the project management chops to bring your project in on time and on budget, every time.

Communicating online can mean having to work with a huge number of different vendors, each responsible for one tiny corner of your project. And that means headaches, as you spend your days trying to get them all working cooperatively — and playing referee when something goes wrong and they start blaming each other.

We can help! Let us put our proven project management skills and methodologies to work for you. We can provide a single point of contact for all your tech needs — one phone number to call when you have a question or a problem, regardless of what. We’ll work with your vendors to sort out who needs to be involved, make sure they’re all working smoothly together, and report back to you on their progress in plain English. And if they start pointing fingers at each other, we have the technical expertise to sort out their claims and let you know who’s living up to the money they charge you and who is not.

Does your Web site feel dowdy? Are your emails exhausted? Maybe they’re due for a makeover! Our designers can help you find the unique look and feel that best expresses what you and your organization are all about.

But don’t worry about us making something that’s pretty but hard to use — we don’t build Web sites for restaurants. We know how to combine form and function to create something that makes an impression without shouting.
